Decoded

[warmup] Read this article about Jay-Z's new book, Decoded, and write about what you think of it. GO here!

Here is an except that ties into Greece and Greek philosophers:
"Cornel West praised Jay-Z as playing Plato to Biggie’s Socrates—that is, of making the world safe for poets of the hip-hop stripe."

  1. I kind of just skimmed over it. I wouldn't read the book thou. I really think that people that are singers or things like that have a hard time writing a book the people our age would like. But of course there are the people that love his music and all of that so they would probably read the book just because of that.

  4. I don't really know Jay Z because I'm not interested in rap music, but he sounds a lot more intelligent than I thought before. He also sounds really deep, more like a poet than a rapper.

  6. I was watching 106 and park and they were talking about his book and jay-z was setting up little quotes and people would have to figure out what they mean and then go look for the thing he was talking about.

  7. Hmm, well I've never really listened to or read about jay-z, so I'm looking at this with fresh eyes. He seems like a cool guy, and the excerpt from his book about the first time he saw someone rap was cool. I bet it would be a pretty interesting book, especially since it was made by someone who isn't necessarily a writer. So it has art and probably other stuff that makes it more of a multimedia piece. I suppose I will have to check it out if it's at the library.

  9. I can't understand the article and what we are supposed to do. I don't see what this has to do with it besides that one quote.

  10. It just shows how smart he is and how much effect and impact jay-z has on every one. He is a very powerful man who does a lot. This just proves how much impact he has made.

  11. To me this article was very interesting, to see how artists in the moderate world have greek names, and stuff like that. . . I guess, but yeah i like how they kind of broke jay-z lyrics down.. and just kind of explained it. But, that's about it.
