  3. The books can be about anything from walking to the park, or getting ready for the day. One other thing about children books is, the writing has to be simple.

  4. Childrens' stories are often written in choppy, simple sentences. The dialect is short, and easy to understand. Pictures, if any, are simple and colorful. Depending on the story, the pictures could also be wonderful pieces of art. "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" is a fine example, http://www.goldenwoodstudio.com/uploads/images/catalog_src/the-twelve-dancing-princesses-2_src_1.jpg , Ruth Sanderson tells a story in simple words, barely explaining the surroundings or setting of the story, and simply gave wonderfully executed pictures to the child.
Sometimes childrens' books have no explanations as to where the characters are, leaving everything up to the imagination of the child. Often, the characters have no names and their looks are unexplained, that way the child could put him or herself in the place of that character. To make it easier for the child, the story normally follows one person, or creature that catches the interest of most kids. Story flow is relatively simple, staying mostly in past or present tense, and if it does jump tenses it is when a character is remembering something earlier on in the book. Characters have simple names that can be easily pronounced.
Compared to adult or teenager books, childrens' books are short, and much more easy to understand. Any hidden meaning is explained later on in the book as a closing paragraph or a moral. Most adult books do not include pictures, and are mostly filled concepts that take age to understand.

  6. -I watched the "Tummy Troubles" one and it is unique because I'm pretty sure that there aren't any other books or shows that are about a giant, talking, red dog.

-Don't use huge words but if you use huge words, use words around it to help describe the word.

  15. What I notice about children books is that they are very short and have a simple straight forward layout. Tools that I plan to use are images and simple sentences, so that the younger children can better understand and follow easier.

  17. Well I chose the story “A Leaf of Absence”. But what I couldn’t help but notice that the lesson of this story is a little.... Well basically, all the dogs have piles of leaves, and then T-Bone leaves and Clifford jumps into T-Bone’s pile. Clifford feels bad so they decide to find all of the leaves and put them back. So nothing is wrong with that, except for the line, “T-Bone thanked Clifford for taking care of his leaves” which implies that Clifford never told T-Bone what happened. So basically what it is saying is that if you do something wrong but cover it up so no one knows, then everything will be okay. Well if you have ever seen an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, you know that that can end very VERY badly. In this book it’s just some leaves, but as the kids get older, if they don’t have some reinforcement, they may do a similar thing, but with more serious consequences. I don’t know what to think of that.
Anyways, this particular story does a little thing where parts of the text are red. When you click the text, the picture in the book changes. For example, the phrase “They all jumped into the pile of leaves”, when clicked, shows a picture of them jumping into the pile of leaves. I think that this connection with the picture and the words can help kids understand the true meaning of the words.
