Being Thankful

Welcome back from our Thanksgiving break. Before we jump right back into the content of World History I think it important we take a couple minutes to acknowledge Thanksgiving and why we had three days off of school.

Watch President Obama's address on Thanksgiving (at least the first two minutes worth, then it gets a little political).
-What do you personally have to be thankful for in your life?
-Obama says Americans "... come together and do what’s required to make tomorrow better than today." What steps are you taking to make tomorrow better for yourself, your family, or our community? If you aren't why aren't you and what could/should you be doing?
-What was your overall impression of Obama's message (support your answer with one or two things you liked or disliked)?

[guiding questions]
How did the geography of China effect its growth?
How was Ancient China organized?
How were the rise and fall of leadership in China a cycle?

[vocabulary]
Mandate of Heaven
Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han

My family, my awesome parents, my friends, videogames, being alive now instead of the 1800's.

Well, I can't say I am. But I am trying to eat heathy and act kindly towards others, and think before i speak, so I am somewhat trying to better myself.

  4. I am thankful for a house, food, clothes, food, school and good food. The steps I am taking to make a better tomorrow for myself is to do my homework so I can get good grades. It will benefit me in the long-run.

  5. Personally I'm thankful for nearly everything I have. Why shouldn't I be? I'm also thankful I don't have any blasted hiccups right now, that I'm healthy, that my family is still alive.
I guess what I do to make tomorrow better is going to sleep on time and thinking about it.

  7. I am thankful for my family and friends that I have today. I am also thankful for school. I try to think positive and I think that sometimes I should live in the moment and not the past. I can't answer the last question.

  9. -What do you personally have to be thankful for in your life?
I am thankful that I was not born in a third world country. I am thankful that I am able to volunteer to help others, rather than the other way around. I am thankful that I get the chance to enjoy the boundary waters. I am thankful that I am getting the chance to work in a kitchen doing dishes this summer. I am thankful that my family has enough money to get by. I am thankful for my flight benefits. I am thankful that I am alive. I am thankful that I am aware of what is going on in the world.

I am in the volunteer group M.E.S.S, a group of high school and college students that go out in the community to help make the world a better place. I volunteer at the YMCA. To help making my family better, I stopped asking to meet my grand father, and I help out while my grandmother is in the hospital.

I liked that he is having people think, which is something a lot of Americans and people all over the world do not do on a daily basis.

-The overall speech to me was boring because he was just sitting there talking and I had no interest in it or the politics.

  14. My family, a home, money to be able to buy what I want. Friends, good food and an education.

I am going to school every day, helping out others when they need it. Being kind and helpful to others in my family and community.

I felt like he got his message across well as usual and it was interesting to listen to. As far as his actual speech I would like to see more variety in his tone and speaking voice to make it more interesting.

  16. I'm thankful for what I have in life and my friends.
i believe I'm helping tomorrow for myself by doing what I love and trying to be happy. (:
I thought Obama's speech was very nice and formal. The family touch made him seem more of an average person rather than a president.

  17. Personally, I am thankful for the security in life. I am thankful that I have a family to come home to. I am thankful that I don't have to think about how I'm going to get my next meal. I am thankful that I don't have to worry about freezing to death in the cold. Basically I'm thankful for the great wealth that I was blessed with. I'm not exactly sure what I did in a past life.

In terms of working towards the future, I'm not sure I am doing much. I do think ahead, always. I am always planning ahead and I guess my actions reflect that, but I can't think of an example.

The video was pretty good all in all. I'm glad that the President is making an effort to be more connected with the people. The language is typical president/Barack Obama talk; not exactly normal. I knew it was prepared when he used the word "emblematic".

OH WAIT well I am fixing up my bike, I suppose that's working to better myself in the future since it's good exercise and reduces my "carbon footprint". so yeah.

Im trying to get a good education, so therefore when I make it in this cold & crazy world I can help my family out more.

It was okay. Im not really into all the political crap. So to me it was kind of boring.
