  3. A family tree is practically a bunch of lines connecting names together to show the relationships or fruits of the said relationship's labour. Most family trees start with two names, and are connected by a single line. If, by any chance, the persons or person is dead, they could be marked with a dotted or dashed line. Sometimes the names are colored in red, or have an X marking who died, it all depends on the type of family tree. The lines show the connection between these names, who are married, were married, who had children or who did not.
Oddly enough, a family more or less resembles the roots of a tree, and less like the actual tree itself. It starts at the top of a page and fans downwards. Funny, because we often say: "I have roots in -----."

  4. The tree is attempting to show the relation between each person on the tree.

The lines stem out to connect each person and if you follow them it shows the relation. It also uses circles that look like rings to represent marriage.

They have a circle with the person on it and right below it there is a rectangle with the persons name. They use tree branches as lines to connect each person to their parents and brothers and sisters

  13. The image I used is at http://syverson.name/images/family-trees/Syverson-Family-Tree.jpg

This tree is trying to explain familial relationships. It's trying to show who married whom, and how the people at the center ultimately came to be. It's meant to have a center, and to increase in diversity as it goes out. The marriage of two people is represented as two branches going into one. the name of the person on the single branch is the child of the married couple.
