Diwali

Diwali-The Festival of Lights is today.

The Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali, is today. Diwali or Deepavali (row of lamps), according to Hindu belief, is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama (an incarnation of Vishnu) to Ayodhya from his exile after vanquishing demon-king Ravana. Diwali is as important to Hindus and Christmas is to Christians. Watch this 3 minute clip on Diwali. After watching it comment below on what you saw and learned about Diwali.

Later you'll have a chance to clean your laptop.

  2. it special to go there in late fall for the festival of lights. It's the victory of lights over the forces of darkness. people get up early to get flowers. People draw lotus flowers with sand. People bring treats to their neighbors. It's a day to be with family. There are lights every where. There are awesome fireworks in many places. It was cool to learn this things and the festival of lights I would not like to get up at dawn though.

  10. I have studied this holiday in the past, and I remembered the colored flowers, and that people went to temple on the day of Diwali. But, I now know why they celebrate the holiday.

  11. I learned that the festival of light is more just a religious holiday than it is some great thing that it was made out to be. I learned that India's silk is very nice a famous. I learned that they choose days from the past to celebrate in the present like we do, such as we celebrate Christmas even though it has its roots in old Norse, Roman, and German beliefs.

    MAN.
Diwali was created to celebrate the triumph of light of over darkness. It's like christmas for christians. Except better. There's like a billion lights, and all that shiza it would be so great to walk there. AWESOME like WOAH. It'd be like re watching the whole light of darkness.
ANYWAYS. People draw welcome lotuses on their thresholds, or in front of their doors. How cool is that.
Man. I cannot tell you how much I WANT TO GO ALL OVER ASIA THIS JUST MADE ME WANT TO GO MORE AAAHHH.

  13. sounds like just a celebration of the forces of good overcoming the forces of evil. I think it's interesting that all of the shops are open, unlike during Christmas. It just sounds like a giant party, of which I approve.

  16. I learned that this holiday is similar in a way to christmas to christians. The people would decorate their homes with fragrances flowers and decorate their temples with powdered lotus shaped flowers. Then also neighbors may go to your home and offer food in celebration. After families towards dawn would go to the temples and/or shop for fine fabrics and dress in their nicest clothes. At the very end they would blow fireworks.
