Storyboard

Our Second run Pixar Animation style storyboard jam with a sneak preview of production.

A more polished storyboard from Pixar's film Up.
[warmup]
Today we'll be making our storyboard for the newsreel project. For warmup today write about your experiences with storyboards. If your never used them before write some guesses about what they might be used for and why they are useful (based on the images above). You are expected to write at least a paragraph today.

The class, myself included, has been getting lacks with our engagement during the warmup. The expectations of the warmup are the follow:
-As you come in quietly find your seat and load up this blog. (Do not load anything else first.)
-Read the directions and completely follow the directions. (Somedays I ask for a specific amount of writing, others I ask for you to write for a specific time, and other I just want you to answer the questions.)
-When time is up quickly close your laptop and give me your attention so I can explain the day's plan. (Between myself and the timer you have enough warning that you can stop when I ask you. You can always continue your writing later in class.)

  1. Oh my god when I took filming classes we had to make those all the time. Every second. Especially for music videos. I don't hate them, but I don't love them either. It's kind of like drawing a really bad comic that won't make any sense unless you know the story.

  2. I have used story boards before, its when you drawn out a plan, to to give a little look at what your movie may look like. It helps to focus your ideas and get them all down. They are used for movies, and even for taking photos. They are not my favorite thing, I work better when I just make it as I go along. I feel like that is more creative.

  3. I think story boards are something you make. Maybe like a a story but without a cover. I don't really know, I'm sick and i'm not in the right state of mind.

  4. I used story boards for media arts projects. They dont really do much for me, i like to create things as i go. I dont like wasting time on drawing things out that are subject to change. I like to grab the camera and think of things as i go. I dont like story boards.

  5. I have a used a story bored before i use it for media arts when we was making our video. I think that their good for planing out a movie or something or making a story. I thin it is a good organizer. I think that so you know what your doing when you flim and you don't forget what you going to do. I think there just good to use.

  6. I think storyboards are to create a main idea. You draw out the main idea in scenes to make the story. I think it looks tedious and I won't like it that much..

  7. When I was in media arts I had to make a story board of my movie before I started to make it. I had six slots for the story board pictures to go in. I like story boards but then I don't like story boards because they are boring.

  8. It's story board to get the main idea of the film down. I think these are very useful, and I use them all the time for my own ideas, it really helps lay the ideas out.

  9. I don't really have much experience with storyboards myself, but I know they can be used for movies, comics, tv shows. It's a way of planning out what it going to happen in a simple way. I'm alright with them, because they are useful, but I don't do them often.

  10. Well, in MCAD we had to make comic books. But before every comic we had to draw out a simple sketched story board before we did the actual comic.

  11. Storyboards are used in many things including movies, theater, animated movies, and comic books. They are used to give an idea of what everything will look like, what's gonna happen and when it's gonna happen.

  12. A story board is when you kinda draw out what your scenes are going to look like and how you want them to go! I really enjoy doing them because they make you look at things a whole different way ! so yeah im excited

  13. I think story boards are a wast of time. I think that if you already have an idea you should do it unless you are making a cartoon where you have to draw the characters first.

  14. I've done storyboards in the past. We often had to do them when planning for videos, although more often than not, the video turned out to be much different from the storyboard. Perhaps if and when I work on a larger project with multiple people a storyboard will be more helpful, but as of now they are more of a nuisance than anything, especially for a project like this where you don't have complete control over the images you get.

  15. I hate story boards. Most times I don't have the resources to make what I have (or make it look like the story). They are useful because they give you an idea of what you want to make the final project look like.

  17. I have used them before but every time I make one my final product ends up being completely different than what I was planning to go on. I do use some things that I was planning in using originally but I have never had a final product exactly the same as my story board.

  18. I. Do. Not. Like. Storyboards.

Ms. Ardnt has made us use them and so has Ms. Barr. We always make them for when we are making a video/movie. I made one in Ms. Ardnt's class for our videos for Cambio.

  21. - I never made a story board before so im not to familiar with story boards . I will guess that you need to organize your video and plan it out . It would be a written version . Stuff like that .

  22. I haven't used a story board like this before. When I use imovie for school projects I usually make a keynote first and with each scene I use a page to describe what it is.
